This is definitely a luxury item, but after doing a bit of chiseling with it, I can say it feels fantastic in the hand. The balance is outstanding, making every strike feel controlled and effortless. So worth it!
I purchased the plans online and used some spare cherry I had to complete the project.
Having the plans and the detailed step-by-step online course made this project very approachable for a hobbyist, and I learned a lot of skills along the way that I will use in other projects in the future.
I appreciated the way Matt suggested multiple options for completing some of the steps which made the project more approachable. I had to make a few compromises with available tools (I only had a Stanley 78 rebate plane without the fence that I had to use like a shoulder plane), and I used the KM dovetail jig to overcome the quality of my saw/sawing, and the Cosman offset method for cutting the pins. I do have a Veritas low-angle jack plane that I used for all the dimensioning and shooting, which worked amazingly.
