Great project, Matt does an awesome job explaining the details and making this feel approachable to a beginner! Lots of micro details on best practices along with challenging your skill set.
I love the content, the teaching abilities and of course the plans. I would love however courses that actually go deeper into more advanced pieces, beyond the shaker table, and not going back to simple things. That's just me though. Thanks Matt!
The box is beautiful and the accompanying videos great. The box itself has only few measurements and that’s why it is disappointing that some of these are wrong. In imperial sizes the lining of the box has the wrong thickness and width, which apparently have been copy-pasted from the box itself. The thickness ought to be 1/4”. The width took a bit of trial and error to figure out in order to allow the lid to close (about 6mm above the carcass). I don’t want to take too many stars for this because the result is beautiful, it is the most beautiful box I've made so far.
Cutting List....Imperial lining shows 5/8", Metric shows 5mm - big difference - It looks to me that you meant Imperial to be 1/4"
I have a piece of oak beam taken from my mother-in-law's house, built around 1600. It was probably taken from a decommissioned ship, so probably started growing around 1-200 years before then. It's been sitting in my garage for a couple of years.
Removing the decayed surface gives me some pieces, which should be around the right size to make the box.
Thanks for the idea Matt. Busy replacing my workshop roof. Then I will start work...
