So worth it!

I purchased the plans online and used some spare cherry I had to complete the project.

Having the plans and the detailed step-by-step online course made this project very approachable for a hobbyist, and I learned a lot of skills along the way that I will use in other projects in the future.

I appreciated the way Matt suggested multiple options for completing some of the steps which made the project more approachable. I had to make a few compromises with available tools (I only had a Stanley 78 rebate plane without the fence that I had to use like a shoulder plane), and I used the KM dovetail jig to overcome the quality of my saw/sawing, and the Cosman offset method for cutting the pins. I do have a Veritas low-angle jack plane that I used for all the dimensioning and shooting, which worked amazingly.

works for me!

I have to be honest I changed some dimensions to suit my timber and feel.
all timber used was recycled Australian hard wood and I'm really happy with it
skipped some steps as I'm not comfortable with string inlays ect. however the plans are good. the lessons are grate, and honestly I would not have been able to build anything anywhere near this without Matt's help. so big thanks and appreciation!

keep up the grate work Matt, Rob, and co!

The box is beautiful and the accompanying videos great—please correct the typos

The box is beautiful and the accompanying videos great. The box itself has only few measurements and that’s why it is disappointing that some of these are wrong. In imperial sizes the lining of the box has the wrong thickness and width, which apparently have been copy-pasted from the box itself. The thickness ought to be 1/4”. The width took a bit of trial and error to figure out in order to allow the lid to close (about 6mm above the carcass). I don’t want to take too many stars for this because the result is beautiful, it is the most beautiful box I've made so far.

Great plans and instructions

Got the plans and followed the video series but changed the dimensions of the table and made two drawers instead of one. It worked beautifully and gave me a lot of insight and inspiration for future projects.

They dont give nessurements for making ramp

They dont give nessurements for making ramp angle and top deck height such that a Veritas Shooting Plane can use the whole plane blade!

Hi Michael,
The ramp angle can be found in the 'Notes' section of the plans and you would adjust that according to the plane you're using for the shooting board anyway. Furthermore, the top deck height is intentionally higher than the Veritas Shooting Plane in order to ensure you can start moving the plane prior to making the cut. If the deck height was lower than the plane blade you wouldn't have that lead in.
Whilst we appreciate your review, we would recommend you getting in touch with us directly if you're having trouble reading the plans, rather than providing unfounded negative feedback.
Cheers,
Rob

Although I haven't started building the cabinet yet

Although I haven't started building the cabinet yet, the plans seem very detailed and should be a straightforward build. I'll be watching Matt's excellent YouTube videos again before I do any prep.

Great Plans & a Great Tutorial!

Matt's shaker table tutorial is where I learned the basics of how to use SketchUp. Not only are these plans a solid design, they also show basic furniture construction techniques. I can't wait to get these plans out to the shop and build a couple for the missus. Thanks, Matt & team.

Well thought out for practice

This is a small but well thought out means to practice and improve one's skills in making joints. The plan offers mortise and tenon, dovetail, half lap and bridle joints, all possible using relatively little stock--perhaps scrap from someone with more experience. This plan is particularly was intended and designed for hand tools, but power tools could be employed in a couple of places.

Ramped Shooting Board

Hi, the Plan of the ramped shooting board is well. But, unfortunately, at the moment, I have less time to build the ramped shooting board.
