Garryson Abrasive Rubber

Remove light surface rust from chisels, blades and workshop tools with this Garryson Abrasive Rubber. At approximately 240 grit, it is a useful first step when restoring a neglected chisel or cleaning a blade before sharpening.

• Preparation before sharpening: Clean corrosion from the blade before moving on to flattening the back and honing the bevel.

How to use it

Use with an oil-based lubricant such as Camellia Oil or 3-in-1 Oil. Rub the affected area with light pressure, checking your progress regularly, then wipe away the oil and abrasive residue before sharpening.

As with any abrasive, it can alter the surface finish. Test on a small area first and take care around cutting edges. Deep pitting may remain after the rust is removed; this rubber cleans the surface but does not flatten a chisel back or sharpen its edge.
