So worth it!
I purchased the plans online and used some spare cherry I had to complete the project.
Having the plans and the detailed step-by-step online course made this project very approachable for a hobbyist, and I learned a lot of skills along the way that I will use in other projects in the future.
I appreciated the way Matt suggested multiple options for completing some of the steps which made the project more approachable. I had to make a few compromises with available tools (I only had a Stanley 78 rebate plane without the fence that I had to use like a shoulder plane), and I used the KM dovetail jig to overcome the quality of my saw/sawing, and the Cosman offset method for cutting the pins. I do have a Veritas low-angle jack plane that I used for all the dimensioning and shooting, which worked amazingly.

A week well spent
I had an absolute blast during the keepsake box course. Having followed his YouTube tutorials, I expected a similar experience, and thatβs exactly what I got, but better. While the video's go into greater detail, being able to ask questions in person after the inevitable is invaluable. The class moved at a perfect pace so explanations came right when we were ready. Matt is a patient teacher, always up for a laugh.
The course also gave me much more confidence with hand planes (prior to this week I was quite traumatised) and showed me how to recover from mistakes without panicking.
Bonus: itβs the perfect chance to try out Mattβs tools if youβre thinking of buying any. Much to the chagrin of my wallet I greatly enjoyed using them!
All in all, it was a week packed with learning, laughter, and enough sawdust.

Super quality engraved coin
I normally don't write reviews, butin this case I have to make an exception π. I have just received my custom emblem coin. When I opened the box I was amazed by the result. Super quality. Perfectly engraved. The background ( in my case the wood texture ) was very beautiful, the logo was very clear and even the small letters were very easy to read. I will definately order more when I need them, and I recommend the coin to everybody. If you want superior quality, you will find it hete. You will not be disappointed.

Excellent course in every way
This was such a good course. Matt is an excellent teacher with a really great balance between when to help and when to leave you alone. We made such good progress that we even got to make a bookstand as an extra. While the odd machine was used for convenience the whole box was really a hand tool build as every machine step had a hand tool alternative.
I cannot recommend this highly enough for beginners and those wishing to improve their joining and hand tool skills. And Matt is so obviously a decent person who cares about what he does. I would happily do another course with him.
