Made from Leadwood sourced from carefully managed woodlands in Mozambique and Olive sourced from Italy, this stunning mallet is designed to be both simple and beautiful with a weight that you’ve got to feel to believe.
Each mallet includes a convex face on one side of the head, a durable blend of oil and wax as a finish, and a brass coin inset directly into the handle to complete the design.
Not only have we gone out of our way to create a product that exceeds our high standards of tolerance and finish, but we’ve extended that mentality through to the packaging too with an internal design we produced in the workshop to ensure the mallet looks great when presented within the box, but can also withstand any journey to arrive safely and securely.
This product has been a challenge, a journey, and a true test of patience. But regardless, we’ve loved every minute of it.

A Functional Work of Art: Outstanding Balance and Craftsmanship
This is definitely a luxury item, but after doing a bit of chiseling with it, I can say it feels fantastic in the hand. The balance is outstanding, making every strike feel controlled and effortless. I especially love the way the mallet stands upright and seems to be waiting for you to pick it up—it’s both practical and visually appealing.
The leadwood and olive wood combination is beautiful, giving the mallet a unique character and premium appearance. The craftsmanship and finish are top-notch, with great attention to detail throughout. Everything about it feels thoughtfully designed and expertly made.

So worth it!
I purchased the plans online and used some spare cherry I had to complete the project.
Having the plans and the detailed step-by-step online course made this project very approachable for a hobbyist, and I learned a lot of skills along the way that I will use in other projects in the future.
I appreciated the way Matt suggested multiple options for completing some of the steps which made the project more approachable. I had to make a few compromises with available tools (I only had a Stanley 78 rebate plane without the fence that I had to use like a shoulder plane), and I used the KM dovetail jig to overcome the quality of my saw/sawing, and the Cosman offset method for cutting the pins. I do have a Veritas low-angle jack plane that I used for all the dimensioning and shooting, which worked amazingly.

A week well spent
I had an absolute blast during the keepsake box course. Having followed his YouTube tutorials, I expected a similar experience, and that’s exactly what I got, but better. While the video's go into greater detail, being able to ask questions in person after the inevitable is invaluable. The class moved at a perfect pace so explanations came right when we were ready. Matt is a patient teacher, always up for a laugh.
The course also gave me much more confidence with hand planes (prior to this week I was quite traumatised) and showed me how to recover from mistakes without panicking.
Bonus: it’s the perfect chance to try out Matt’s tools if you’re thinking of buying any. Much to the chagrin of my wallet I greatly enjoyed using them!
All in all, it was a week packed with learning, laughter, and enough sawdust.
